The New York rules in full, with citations

New York requires something almost no other state does: a separate alteration-warning stamp alongside the seal. Documents filed with public officials also need a personal signature on the original. Section 79-1.4 has two subdivisions, lettered (a) and (b); paragraph numbers in Subpart 79-1 sit one level below the letter, as the Subpart's own cross-references to "section 79-1.1(b)(1)" show. By its own terms, § 79-1.4(a) prescribes this design for applicants who initially applied for licensure on or after January 1, 1987; the regulation does not describe the design used by earlier licensees. Article 148 was read at https://www.op.nysed.gov/professions/landscape-architecture/laws-rules-regulations/article-148 and the subdivision numbering of Educ. Law § 7327 at https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/laws/EDN/7327.

FAQ

New York Landscape Architect Seal FAQs

Frequently asked questions about New York digital landscape architect stamps and seals.

How do I obtain a digital New York landscape architect seal or stamp?

Once you are licensed in New York, you can generate your seal here and download it immediately. Fill in the form and position your signature if you want one. The layout follows 8 NYCRR § 79-1.4; N.Y. Educ. Law § 7327(1), which is the provision the New York State Board for Landscape Architecture (New York State Education Department, Office of the Professions) will measure the seal against.

What are the requirements for the New York landscape architect stamp or seal?

New York’s landscape architect seal rule is 8 NYCRR § 79-1.4; N.Y. Educ. Law § 7327(1), administered by the New York State Board for Landscape Architecture (New York State Education Department, Office of the Professions), a different body from the engineering board. The seal must carry “Registered Landscape Architect, State of New York”, and circular, approximately 1 3/4 inches in diameter.

A further 6 requirements, each tied to the subsection that imposes it, are itemised in the New York requirements section on this page.

What size does a New York landscape architect seal have to be?

Circular, approximately 1 3/4 inches in diameter. This is set by 8 NYCRR § 79-1.4(a).

Is the Great Seal of New York in the inner circle, with the name above and number below?

Does the seal carry the Great Seal of New York in the inner circle? The licensee's name goes above it and the license number below it, and the rule forbids any other letters or numbers in the design. (8 NYCRR § 79-1.4(a))

Is the alteration-warning stamp applied alongside the seal?

Have you added the separate alteration-warning stamp? New York requires a second stamp, warning that altering the item is a violation of law, on every plan, specification and report to which the landscape architect's seal is applied. (8 NYCRR § 79-1.4(b))

Registered or licensed — which word belongs on a New York seal?

The legend reads "Registered Landscape Architect" even though Article 148 speaks of licensure; the design does not use the word "licensed." (8 NYCRR § 79-1.4(a); N.Y. Educ. Law § 7327(1))
