The Louisiana rules in full, with citations

The 1½-to-2-inch range quoted for Louisiana matches no provision of §2701; the rule gives two discrete sizes, 1-5/8 inch and 2 inch. The endorsement legend at §2701.A.2.a.v was added by the April 2025 amendment, LR 51:553. The board's rules are codified at LAC Title 46, Part XLIII; the Part was last amended November 2025, though §909 itself was last amended December 2014.

Interior Designer seal

Board:
Louisiana State Board of Examiners of Interior Designers
Diameter:
No diameter is prescribed. La. R.S. 37:3179.2 states no dimension, and LAC 46:XLIII.909, the rule to which the statute delegates the design, supplies only a picture of the seal with no measurement.
Legend:

  • The board shall prescribe, by rule, distinctively different seals to be used by registered interior designers holding valid certificates of registration. (La. R.S. 37:3179.2(A))
  • Each interior designer shall obtain a seal as prescribed by the board. Any drawing, plan, specification, or report prepared or issued by the interior designer and being filed for public record shall bear the signature, registration number, and seal of the interior designer who prepared or approved the document and the date on which they were sealed. The signature, date, and seal shall be evidence of the authenticity of the document. (La. R.S. 37:3179.2(B))
  • Each holder of a license shall secure a seal of such design as is prescribed in the rules of the board. All drawings, renderings, or specifications prepared by the holder or under his supervision shall be imprinted with his seal. (LAC 46:XLIII.909.A)
  • "The seal to be used is identified in the following illustration." The illustration in the rule shows the registrant's name in the upper arc, the registration number below it, the Louisiana pelican device encircled by "state of Louisiana", and "registered interior designer" in the lower arc. The rule prescribes no wording in running text. (LAC 46:XLIII.909.B)
  • No interior designer shall affix, or permit to be affixed, his registration number, his seal or signature to any plan, specification, drawing, or other document which depicts work which he is not competent or licensed to perform. (La. R.S. 37:3179.2(C))
  • No interior designer shall affix his signature, registration number, or seal to any plan, specification, or other document which was not prepared by him or under his responsible supervising control or by another interior designer and reviewed, approved, or modified and adopted by him as his own work according to rules adopted by the board. (La. R.S. 37:3179.2(D))
  • When a certificate of registration has been revoked or suspended, the interior designer shall surrender his seal to the secretary of the board within thirty days after the revocation or suspension becomes effective; a seal surrendered on suspension is returned when the suspension period expires. (La. R.S. 37:3179.2(F))

FAQ

Louisiana Interior Designer Seal FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Louisiana digital interior designer stamps and seals.

How do I obtain a digital Louisiana interior designer seal or stamp?

Once you are licensed in Louisiana, you can generate your seal here and download it immediately. Fill in the form and position your signature if you want one. The layout follows La. R.S. 37:3179.2; LAC 46:XLIII.909, which is the provision the Louisiana State Board of Examiners of Interior Designers will measure the seal against.

What are the requirements for the Louisiana interior designer stamp or seal?

Louisiana’s interior designer stamp rule is La. R.S. 37:3179.2; LAC 46:XLIII.909, administered by the Louisiana State Board of Examiners of Interior Designers, a different body from the engineering board. The seal must carry “registered interior designer, state of Louisiana”, and no diameter is prescribed. La. R.S. 37:3179.2 states no dimension, and LAC 46:XLIII.909, the rule to which the statute delegates the design, supplies only a picture of the seal with no measurement.

A further 7 requirements, each tied to the subsection that imposes it, are itemised in the Louisiana requirements section on this page.

What size does a Louisiana interior designer stamp have to be?

La. R.S. 37:3179.2; LAC 46:XLIII.909 governs the Louisiana interior designer’s seal but does not prescribe a diameter. Sizes quoted for Louisiana elsewhere generally come from stamp suppliers’ catalogues rather than from the rule. What the rule does require is that your name and license number stay clearly legible.

Where does the Louisiana seal wording actually come from?

LAC 46:XLIII.909.B prescribes the seal only by reproducing an image — the rule contains no sentence listing the required words. Everything on the seal is read off that illustration. (LAC 46:XLIII.909.B)

Does the date belong on every drawing?

R.S. 37:3179.2(B) ties the signature, registration number, seal and date to documents "being filed for public record", while LAC 46:XLIII.909.A requires the seal on all drawings, renderings, or specifications prepared by or under the registrant. (La. R.S. 37:3179.2(B); LAC 46:XLIII.909.A)
