Louisiana Interior Designer seal requirements: proper sizing, signing and sealing of documents
As of
Louisiana registers interior designers, and La. R.S. 37:3179.2 directs the board to prescribe the seal by rule. The board's rule, LAC 46:XLIII.909, prescribes the design only by reproducing an illustration: the registrant's name, the registration number, the Louisiana pelican device with "state of Louisiana", and "registered interior designer". Neither the statute nor the rule states a diameter.

The 1½-to-2-inch range quoted for Louisiana matches no provision of §2701; the rule gives two discrete sizes, 1-5/8 inch and 2 inch. The endorsement legend at §2701.A.2.a.v was added by the April 2025 amendment, LR 51:553. The board's rules are codified at LAC Title 46, Part XLIII; the Part was last amended November 2025, though §909 itself was last amended December 2014.

- Expiration date
- No expiration or renewal date appears on the seal. R.S. 37:3179.2(B) requires only the signature, registration number, seal and the date of sealing, and the illustration in LAC 46:XLIII.909.B carries only the name, registration number and legend.(La. R.S. 37:3179.2(B); LAC 46:XLIII.909.B)

The signature, date, and seal shall be evidence of the authenticity of the document.(La. R.S. 37:3179.2(B))

- No interior designer shall affix, or permit to be affixed, his registration number, his seal or signature to any plan, specification, drawing, or other document which depicts work which he is not competent or licensed to perform.(La. R.S. 37:3179.2(C))
- No interior designer shall affix his signature, registration number, or seal to any plan, specification, or other document which was not prepared by him or under his responsible supervising control or by another interior designer and reviewed, approved, or modified and adopted by him as his own work according to rules adopted by the board.(La. R.S. 37:3179.2(D))

Louisiana interior designer seal questions
Where does the Louisiana seal wording actually come from?▾
LAC 46:XLIII.909.B prescribes the seal only by reproducing an image — the rule contains no sentence listing the required words. Everything on the seal is read off that illustration. (LAC 46:XLIII.909.B)
Does the date belong on every drawing?▾
R.S. 37:3179.2(B) ties the signature, registration number, seal and date to documents "being filed for public record", while LAC 46:XLIII.909.A requires the seal on all drawings, renderings, or specifications prepared by or under the registrant. (La. R.S. 37:3179.2(B); LAC 46:XLIII.909.A)
