The Wyoming rules in full, with citations

Chapter 5 of the engineering board's rules was last amended 3 September 2021, and its Section 2, headed "Sizes", governs sheet dimensions rather than seal diameter — the seal is dimensioned in Section 1(a). Every version of that chapter in force between 1 July 2013 and 24 March 2020 prescribed no dimensions at all; the 24 March 2020 amendment restored the 1¾-inch and 1¼-inch figures the rules had carried before the 2013 rewrite. Seals authorized before 1 July 2013 may still be used. W.S. 33-41-115(a) concerns the certificate the Board issues under the seal of the board - the board's own corporate seal - while subsections (b) through (d) govern the licensee's seal; only the latter is reported here. The rule text read is the version of the Board's Rules and Regulations adopted 30 September 2015 and filed with the Secretary of State, published on the Legislative Service Office's rules server; the Wyoming Secretary of State's rules search does not return a later filing for the agency.

The inner circle shall contain the name of the licensee and the license number above the outline of a bucking horse of the size, shape, and orientation shown. (Board Rules ch. 4, § 2(a))

  • Original work in an electronic format with a computer generated seal may be certified and dated using the text block or similar wording: "The seal appearing on this document was authorized by J. Doe, PG-1111 on (date)"; or it may carry an affixed electronic signature and date that is unique to the licensee, verifiable, under the licensee's sole control, and linked to the document so the data can be verified as unaltered. A scanned image or other reproduction of an original signature and date shall not be substituted for a certified seal nor used in lieu of an electronic signature. (Board Rules ch. 4, § 2(e))

The seal consists of concentric circles, the outer circle being one and three quarter (1.75) inches in diameter and the inner circle one and one quarter (1.25) inches.

A further 10 requirements, each tied to the subsection that imposes it, are itemised in the Wyoming requirements section on this page.

What size does a Wyoming geologist seal have to be?

1.75 inches overall. The seal consists of concentric circles, the outer circle being one and three quarter (1.75) inches in diameter and the inner circle one and one quarter (1.25) inches. This is set by Board Rules ch. 4, § 2(a).

Must the seal be approved by the Board before first use?

May a Wyoming licensee start sealing as soon as the seal is made? No - an impression or stamp superimposed over an original signature must be submitted to the Board within ninety days of notification of licensure, and prior to sealing any work a licensee shall have his seal approved by the Board. (Board Rules ch. 4, § 2(c))

Does the Wyoming geologist seal include a date field?

Should the seal carry a date line? No - chapter 4, section 2(a) states that the seal shall not include the word "DATE", even though the document itself must be dated. (Board Rules ch. 4, § 2(a))

Is a scanned signature acceptable on an electronically sealed document?

Can a scanned signature be dropped onto a sealed electronic document? No - a scanned image or other reproduction of an original signature and date shall not be substituted for a certified seal nor used in lieu of an electronic signature. (Board Rules ch. 4, § 2(e)(iii))

Do the placeholder words "(NAME)" and "(NUMBER)" stay on the seal?

Do the words in the template belong on the finished seal? No - the words and parentheses "(NUMBER)" and "(NAME)" shall not appear on the seal; they mark the positions the licensee's own details occupy. (Board Rules ch. 4, § 2(a))
