The Arizona rules in full, with citations

R4-30-304 is often cited as the Arizona seal rule; it governs where the seal goes on documents. What the seal must contain, and its size, are in R4-30-303 and Appendix A. Both were last amended by final rulemaking at 24 A.A.R. 1785, effective August 5, 2018. A.R.S. § 32-125 keys the sealing duty to registrants "required by the board to use seals"; the requirement reaches geologists through R4-30-303(A)(1), which lists "Registered Professional Geologist" among the prescribed seal phrases. R4-30-303 and R4-30-304 were last amended by final rulemaking at 24 A.A.R. 1785, effective August 5, 2018.

FAQ

Arizona Geologist Seal FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Arizona digital geologist stamps and seals.

How do I obtain a digital Arizona professional geologist seal or stamp?

Once you are licensed in Arizona, you can generate your seal here and download it immediately. Fill in the form and position your signature if you want one. The layout follows A.R.S. § 32-125; Ariz. Admin. Code R4-30-303, R4-30-304, and 4 A.A.C. 30 Appendix A, which is the provision the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration will measure the seal against.

What are the requirements for the Arizona geologist stamp or seal?

Arizona’s geologist seal rule is A.R.S. § 32-125; Ariz. Admin. Code R4-30-303, R4-30-304, and 4 A.A.C. 30 Appendix A, administered by the Arizona State Board of Technical Registration. The seal must carry “Registered Professional Geologist (upper annular space); Arizona U.S.A. (lower annular space); the registrant's name, registration number and the words "date signed" in the inner circle”, and an ink seal 1 1/2 inches in diameter, identical in style, size, and appearance to the sample shown in Appendix A.

A further 10 requirements, each tied to the subsection that imposes it, are itemised in the Arizona requirements section on this page.

What size does an Arizona geologist seal have to be?

An ink seal 1 1/2 inches in diameter, identical in style, size, and appearance to the sample shown in Appendix A. This is set by Ariz. Admin. Code R4-30-303(A); 4 A.A.C. 30 App. A.

Have you filed your seal imprint with the Board yet?

R4-30-303(B) requires the registrant to file an imprint of the seal with an original signature superimposed over it, plus an affidavit, immediately on receipt and before using the seal for any purpose; the Board may disapprove a seal that does not meet the exact specifications and require another before any work is sealed. (Ariz. Admin. Code R4-30-303(B))

Does your computer-generated seal match the one on file?

R4-30-304(E)(1) accepts a computer-generated seal only if it matches the seal on file at the Board's office, and R4-30-304(F) rejects any other method of transferring a seal. (Ariz. Admin. Code R4-30-304(E)(1), (F))

Does your signature cross the seal without covering your name or number?

Appendix A instructs the registrant to sign across the lower portion of the seal and not to cover the name or registration number, and R4-30-304(E)(2) requires an original signature that does not obscure either. (4 A.A.C. 30 App. A; Ariz. Admin. Code R4-30-304(E)(2))
