Nevada Landscape Architect seal requirements: proper sizing, signing and sealing of documents

As of

Nevada does not let a landscape architect supply their own stamp — under NRS 623A.195(1) the Board issues the seal, of a design the Board authorizes, bearing the registrant's name, the certificate of registration number and the title "landscape architect", and NAC 623A.140(4) prohibits the use of any stamp other than that official stamp or an electronic official stamp obtained from the Board. NAC 623A.440(3) requires the registrant to place an original signature, the date of execution and the expiration date of the registration across the stamp on the front page. No diameter is prescribed in either NRS 623A or NAC 623A.

NAC 625.610 was not touched by the board's 2024-2025 rulemaking, LCB File R007-24, which amended the professional land surveyor standards of practice at NAC 625.655 and 625.666. Nevada regulates landscape architects under a separate board from architects and interior designers, who fall under NRS 623 and the State Board of Architecture, Interior Design and Residential Design. NRS 623A.195(2) also authorizes the Board to adopt regulations on the manner of electronic transmission of sealed documents, which the Board implements through the electronic official stamp in NAC 623A.140(3).

Diameter
No diameter is prescribed. NRS 623A.195(1) leaves the design to the Board — the Board issues the seal itself — and NAC 623A.140 and NAC 623A.440, the regulations governing the official stamp and its use, state no dimension.
Expiration date
The expiration date is required, but it is written across the stamp rather than engraved in it: NAC 623A.440(3) requires the registrant to place the original signature, the date of execution and the expiration date of the registration across the stamp on the front page. NRS 623A.195(1) limits the stamp's own inscription to the registrant's name, certificate number and the title "landscape architect".(NRS 623A.195(1); NAC 623A.440(3))
Signature date
Documents issued for official use must be signed, sealed and dated on the title page with a permanently legible imprint of the seal and signature, and the date of execution must be placed across the stamp on the front page.(NRS 623A.195(2); NAC 623A.440(1), (3))
City on seal
The inscription authorized by NRS 623A.195(1) is limited to the registrant's name, the certificate of registration number and the title "landscape architect"; no city or place of business is required.(NRS 623A.195(1))
  • Upon issuing a certificate of registration, the Board shall issue to the holder of the certificate of registration a seal of the design authorized by the Board, bearing the name of the holder of the certificate of registration, the number of the certificate of registration and the title "landscape architect."(NRS 623A.195(1))
  • A plan, specification, report or other document issued by a holder of a certificate of registration for official use must be signed, sealed and dated on the title page by him or her with a permanently legible imprint of his or her seal and signature.(NRS 623A.195(2))
  • It is unlawful for a person to stamp or seal any plan, specification, report or other document with the seal of a holder of a certificate of registration after the certificate of registration has expired or has been suspended or revoked, unless the certificate of registration has been renewed or reissued.(NRS 623A.195(3))
  • A registrant must have an official stamp issued by the Board; the stamp is issued after the certificate of registration is issued and the fee is paid.(NAC 623A.140(1), (2))
  • In addition to an official stamp, a registrant may obtain an electronic official stamp from the Board by submitting to the Board a request for an electronic official stamp and the fee for the electronic official stamp.(NAC 623A.140(3))
  • The use of any stamp other than the official stamp or an electronic official stamp is prohibited.(NAC 623A.140(4))
  • All submitted instruments of service, including, without limitation, landscape architectural plans, specifications, reports, papers and other professional documents relating to the practice of landscape architecture, must be stamped, signed and dated by the registrant who prepared them or under whose direct supervision they were prepared.(NAC 623A.440(1))
  • A registrant shall use the original stamp provided by the Board pursuant to NAC 623A.140 and place his or her original signature, the date of execution and the expiration date of the registration across the stamp, on the front page of the work prepared by him or her.(NAC 623A.440(3))
  • Where a document contains work of more than one discipline or professional, the registrant must add a notation which clearly denotes the sheets that he or she prepared.(NAC 623A.440(4))
  • Signing or sealing instruments of service which were not prepared by the registrant or under his or her direct supervision is a ground for disciplinary action.(NRS 623A.280)

Nevada landscape architect seal questions

Was your stamp issued by the Board, or is it a stamp NAC 623A.140(4) prohibits?

Nevada is a board-issued stamp state. NAC 623A.140(1) requires the official stamp issued by the Board, NAC 623A.140(3) provides that an electronic official stamp is also obtained from the Board for a fee, and NAC 623A.140(4) prohibits the use of any other stamp. (NAC 623A.140(1), (3), (4))

Have you written the expiration date of your registration across the stamp, not just the date of execution?

The registration expiration date is not part of the stamp's inscription — NAC 623A.440(3) requires it to be written across the stamp along with the original signature and the date of execution. (NRS 623A.195(1); NAC 623A.440(3))

Is your stamp a pre-June 2006 stamp requiring a handwritten expiration date?

NAC 623A.140 provides that a registrant issued a stamp before June 1, 2006 may continue to use it only if he or she handwrites the expiration date. (NAC 623A.140)
