Oklahoma Landscape Architect seal requirements: proper sizing, signing and sealing of documents

As of

Oklahoma licenses landscape architects through the Board of Governors of the Architects, Landscape Architects and Licensed Interior Designers, and the seal rule is OAC 55:10-11-8. The seal must be a circle containing the licensee's name, Oklahoma license number and the words "Licensed Landscape Architect, State of Oklahoma"; the rule states no diameter. The seal, the signature and the date all go on the technical submissions, and the rule specifies that the handwritten or electronically generated date is affixed across the seal.

The board writes its own name as the Oklahoma State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Surveyors; OAC Title 245 and 59 O.S. § 475.3 still read "Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors". Chapter 55:10 was reorganised effective September 15, 2025: the former 55:10-11-9 (Authorized use of seal), 55:10-11-10 (Required use of seal, signature and date), 55:10-11-11, 55:10-11-12 and 55:10-11-13 were revoked and their substance folded into 55:10-11-8, now titled "Architect, landscape architect, and licensed interior designer seal". The cited source is the board's posted copy of Chapter 10 marked "Effective September 15, 2025", which also carries the board's proposed 2026 amendments in redline; the seal rule is not among the proposed changes. The board's own seal handout, "2024 Seal Requirements - All Professions", quotes the same design language under the older lettering (a)-(c). The board brands itself online as the Oklahoma Board of Architects, Landscape Architects, Licensed Interior Designers; the name used in Title 55 is the Board of Governors of the Architects, Landscape Architects and Licensed Interior Designers of Oklahoma.

Diameter
No diameter is prescribed. OAC 55:10-11-8(a)(2) requires only that the landscape architect's seal "be a circle" containing the name, Oklahoma license number and the words "Licensed Landscape Architect, State of Oklahoma"; no dimension appears anywhere in the chapter's seal rule.
Expiration date
Section 55:10-11-8(a)(2) gives the whole contents of the seal — name, Oklahoma license number and the words "Licensed Landscape Architect, State of Oklahoma" — and no licence expiration or renewal date is required on it or beside it.(Okla. Admin. Code § 55:10-11-8(a)(2))
Signature date
The seal alone is not enough: § 55:10-11-8(c)(1) requires the seal, signature and date together on the technical submissions, and § 55:10-11-8(c) places the handwritten or electronically generated date across the seal.(Okla. Admin. Code § 55:10-11-8(c), (c)(1))
City on seal
No address, city or place of business appears in the contents prescribed by § 55:10-11-8(a)(2).(Okla. Admin. Code § 55:10-11-8(a)(2))
  • Every individual authorized to practice architecture, landscape architecture, or licensed interior design by a License shall procure a seal with which to identify all technical submissions, addenda, field orders and other documents of service issued by the Licensee for use in this State.(Okla. • The seal appearing on any technical submission shall be prima facie evidence that the technical submission was prepared by or under the individual named on the seal. The Licensee is responsible for its security when not in use.(Okla. Admin. Code § 55:10-11-8(b))
  • Location of seal, signature and date: the handwritten or electronically generated date shall be affixed across the seal.(Okla. Admin. Code § 55:10-11-8(c))
  • All Licensees shall affix their seal, signature and date to all technical submissions and to the original cover sheet and the page identifying all specification pages covered, including all addenda and field changes. If incomplete, the Licensee shall clearly identify that the plans are incomplete and not for construction.(Okla. Admin. Code § 55:10-11-8(c)(1))
  • In the absence of sheets or covers identifying all sheets, all original contract documents of service must have the seal, date and signature of the Licensee responsible.(Okla. Admin. Code § 55:10-11-8(c)(2))
  • Prototypical plans are not required to carry the seal, signature, and date of the original Licensee, but must prior to their issue in Oklahoma be marked and qualified by a written statement to the effect of: "Prototypical submissions not for regulatory approval or construction."(Okla. Admin. Code § 55:10-11-8(e))
  • An Architect, Landscape Architect, Licensed Interior Designer or Entity shall retain a copy of all technical submissions produced for a minimum of ten (10) years following the date of preparation.(Okla. Admin. Code § 55:10-11-8(g))

Admin. Code § 55:10-11-8(h), (i))

Oklahoma landscape architect seal questions

Where does the date go on an Oklahoma landscape architect's seal?

Across the seal. Section 55:10-11-8(c) requires the handwritten or electronically generated date to be affixed across the seal rather than typed beside it. (Okla. Admin. Code § 55:10-11-8(c))

Is there an Oklahoma diameter to match?

No. The rule requires a circle containing the name, license number and legend and states no dimension, so a vendor's stated diameter is the vendor's, not the board's. (Okla. Admin. Code § 55:10-11-8(a)(2))
