Utah Landscape Architect seal requirements: proper sizing, signing and sealing of documents
As of
Utah licenses landscape architects under the Landscape Architects Licensing Act, and Utah Code § 58-53-601 delegates the seal's design to rule. R156-53-601 makes it a circular seal of 1.5 inches minimum diameter carrying the licensee's name, the license number, "State of Utah" and "Licensed Landscape Architect". The signature and date must appear across the face of each seal imprint, and the seal may be a wet stamp, embossed, or electronically produced.

R156-22-601 states a minimum diameter and nothing else; the "maximum 2 inches" figure circulated for Utah is in no part of the rule. The agency is now the Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL); the older name Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing survives only in the legacy heading of the R156 code title. The 2024 amendment to Utah Code § 58-53-102 (Chapter 507, 2024 General Session, effective October 1, 2024) defines "Board" as the Architects and Landscape Architects Licensing Board created in § 58-3a-201, so the landscape architects' board is now combined with the architects' board. R156-53 itself is still published under the Division's former name, Occupational and Professional Licensing; the agency is now the Division of Professional Licensing. The Office of Administrative Rules gives R156-53 a Date of Last Change of August 21, 2014 and a Notice of Continuation of November 10, 2022.

Utah landscape architect seal questions
Where does the signature go on a Utah landscape architect's seal?▾
R156-53-601(3) does not merely require a signature — it requires the signature and date to appear across the face of each seal imprint, so a signature placed beside the seal does not satisfy the rule. (Utah Admin. Code R156-53-601(3))
Does an exemption from licensure remove the sealing duty?▾
No. Utah Code § 58-53-602(2) requires the final site plan to bear the landscape architect's seal when submitted to a client or to a building official "even if the practice is exempt from licensure under Section 58-53-304." (Utah Code § 58-53-602(2))
