Diameter

No diameter is prescribed. AS 08.48.221(a) says only that the seal be "of the design authorized by the board," and 12 AAC 36.180(d) supplies that design as a reproduced image with no stated dimension; a "substantially similar electronic or digital representation" is expressly allowed.

Expiration date

The prescribed design in 12 AAC 36.180(d) carries only the state name, the legend, the registrant's name and the license number; no expiration or renewal date appears in it, and 12 AAC 36.185 requires only the date of signing, not an expiration date.(12 AAC 36.180(d); 12 AAC 36.185(d))

Signature date

The date must be inserted, electronically or manually, within the seal or within two inches of the seal each time the registrant signs and seals.(12 AAC 36.185(d))

City on seal

No city appears in the prescribed seal design. Separately, 12 AAC 36.185(g) requires the registrant's business physical address and the project address or location on the document itself — not inside the seal.(12 AAC 36.180(d); 12 AAC 36.185(g))

• Each registrant may obtain a seal of the design authorized by the board, bearing the registrant's name, registration number, and the appropriate legend for architect, engineer, land surveyor, landscape architect, or registered interior designer. When a registrant issues final drawings, specifications, surveys, plats, plates, reports, or similar documents, the registrant shall stamp the documents with the seal and sign the seal.(AS 08.48.221(a))
• The seal authorized for use by professional landscape architects is of the design shown in the regulation or a substantially similar electronic or digital representation of that design; as reproduced, the design carries "STATE OF ALASKA" around the upper edge, "REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT" around the lower edge, a "49TH" star device, and interior lines reading "(Affix Original Signature)", "(Your Name)" and "No. ____".(12 AAC 36.180(d))
• The license number noted on the seal must be only the numeric characters of the registrant's license number and exclude alpha characters.(12 AAC 36.180(a))
• A registrant shall seal only final drawings, surveys, reports, and required construction documents for which the registrant is qualified to seal and for which the registrant claims responsibility, and may not sign or seal work for which the registrant does not have direct professional knowledge and direct supervisory control.(12 AAC 36.185(a)(3), (a)(7))
• The registrant shall include the date each time the registrant signs and seals a document by electronically or manually inserting the date within the seal or within two inches of the seal.(12 AAC 36.185(d))
• A registrant shall validate the seal on a document that has either an original handwritten signature over each seal, or an electronic image of the original handwritten signature and a digital signature; the electronic image must be permanently affixed to each seal directly over the seal, and the digital signature must be unique to the registrant, capable of verification, under the registrant's exclusive control, and linked to the document so that it is invalidated if the document is changed.(12 AAC 36.185(f))
• The registrant shall include on all documents that are required to be signed and sealed the business name, physical address and telephone number; the project name or identification; the project address or location; and the certificate of authorization number issued to the firm, if applicable.(12 AAC 36.185(g))
• A landscape architect may not affix or permit a seal and signature to be affixed to an instrument after the expiration of a certificate, or for the purpose of aiding or abetting another person to evade the chapter. Final drawings, specifications, surveys, plats, plates, reports, or similar documents containing the work of multiple fields of practice shall be sealed and signed by a registrant in each field of practice covered by the document.(AS 08.48.221(a), (b))
