Maryland Landscape Architect seal requirements: proper sizing, signing and sealing of documents
As of
Maryland prescribes contents but no wording and no size. COMAR 09.28.01.05A requires every licensed landscape architect to obtain an individual seal whose impression carries the landscape architect's name and license number — nothing else — and Business Occupations and Professions Article § 9-501 requires the licensee to sign, seal and date every final drawing, plan, specification, report or other document before issuing it to a client or submitting it to a public authority. Neither the statute nor the regulation states a diameter.

COMAR 09.23.03.11, the citation usually given for the Maryland engineer seal, is "Failure to Respond" and has nothing to do with seals. The seal itself is COMAR 09.23.01.03, in the procedural regulations; signing and sealing is 09.23.03.09 and the titleblock is 09.23.03.10. COMAR 09.28.01.05 was adopted effective October 7, 1985 and has not been amended since; it predates the Board's move from DLLR to the Maryland Department of Labor, so older citations appear under Title 09, Subtitle 28 of either department name.

Maryland landscape architect seal questions
Can a rubber stamp replace the embossing seal?▾
Not generally. COMAR 09.28.01.05B permits a rubber stamp facsimile together with the live signature only on tracings, to produce legible reproductions, and states expressly that this "does not in any manner modify the requirements of Business Occupations and Professions Article, §9-501 ... in reference to use of the impression seal and signature." (COMAR 09.28.01.05B)
Does the rule prescribe any wording for the seal?▾
No. COMAR 09.28.01.05A prescribes only two items of content — the landscape architect's name and the license number. No legend such as "licensed landscape architect" or "State of Maryland" is required by the rule. (COMAR 09.28.01.05A)
