Land surveyors in Alabama seal under Ala. Admin. Code r. 330-X-11-.02 (Seal Of The Licensee), administered by the Alabama Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. The seal reads “Licensed Professional Land Surveyor”. Circular in form and from 1-5/8 to 2 inches in diameter.
Chapter 330-X-11 is still published under the Board's former name, Alabama State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Seals obtained before the rule was adopted that conform to prior Board rules remain acceptable.

Does an Alabama land surveyor's seal need "P.L.S." before the number?▾
No. What the statute requires is the licensee's name, the licensure number and the legend "licensed professional land surveyor," and the Board's own FAQ answers this directly: it is not necessary to have the PE or PLS in front of the number as long as the stamp reads Professional Land Surveyor. Can an Alabama land surveyor seal only the cover sheet of a plat set?▾
No. Each map, plat or chart sheet must be signed, sealed and dated by the licensee who prepared it or under whose responsible charge it was prepared. The shortcut that lets a licensee seal only the title or index sheet is written for reports and specifications bound in one volume, and it does not extend to plats. (Ala. Admin. Code r. 330-X-11-.03(3)(a)-(b))
Must an Alabama land surveyor remove the old seal when revising a sealed plat?▾
The opposite. Any revision to a document carrying a licensee's seal and signature must be described and dated, and the original seal and signature shall not be removed. If someone other than the original licensee made the revisions, the licensee in responsible charge of those revisions signs and seals them as well, alongside the seal already there. (Ala. Admin. Code r. 330-X-11-.03(5))
When must an Alabama land surveyor take the seal off a file before sending it?▾
Drawings, plats, reports or documents that do not require certification may be transmitted electronically only after the generated seal is removed, and the rule dictates what replaces the signature and date: "This document originally issued and sealed by (name of licensee), P.E. #______/P.L.S.#______ on (date of sealing). This document should not be considered a certified document." (Ala. Admin. Code r. 330-X-11-.03(8))
