Pennsylvania PE seal requirements: size, wording, and the rule that sets them
As of
Pennsylvania fixes one diameter rather than a range. 49 Pa. Code § 37.58 requires a 1¾-inch seal in the identical design authorized by the Board, carrying the legend "Registered Professional Engineer", your name and registration number, and a reference to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A pocket seal may be reduced to 1½ inches only if the design keeps the same relative proportions. A digital seal is an electronic image carrying those same elements.
Pennsylvania prescribes one diameter rather than a range, and allows a smaller pocket seal only if the proportions are kept.

Is a Pennsylvania PE seal 1⅝ inches in diameter?▾
1⅝ inches is not a permitted Pennsylvania size, though it is widely quoted. The rule gives 1¾ inches, with 1½ inches allowed only for a proportionally reduced pocket seal. (49 Pa. Code § 37.58)
Can a Pennsylvania PE seal use "P.E." as the legend?▾
"P.E." is not the Pennsylvania legend. The rule requires "Registered Professional Engineer". (49 Pa. Code § 37.58)
Can I design my own layout for a Pennsylvania engineer seal?▾
Pennsylvania does not let you design your own layout — the seal has to be the design the Board authorized. (49 Pa. Code § 37.58(a))
Where does a Pennsylvania PE put the seal, signature and date on a document?▾
The signature is applied near or across the seal but must not obliterate the registration number, and the seal, signature and date of issuance all belong on the first page. (49 Pa. Code § 37.59)
