Nebraska PE seal requirements: size, wording, and the rule that sets them
As of
Nebraska's seal requirements come from Neb. Rev. Stat. § 81-3437.01 and Rule 6.1 of 110 Neb. Admin. Code ch. 6. A professional engineer's seal reads "PROFESSIONAL [DISCIPLINE] ENGINEER" at the top and "STATE OF NEBRASKA" at the bottom, with the licensee's name and license number; the discipline sits inside the legend, and the Board treats a seal without it as non-compliant. Neither the statute nor the rule prescribes a diameter — the Board's only dimensional requirement is that the seal be legible, and an illegible seal is invalid. Since LB1212, the signature and the date of the seal's application may be placed across or adjacent to the seal, provided they do not obscure the licensee's name or license number.
Rule 6.1.6 still reads "signed across the face of the seal," wording that predates the 2026 amendment of § 81-3437.01(2). The statute now permits the signature and date across or adjacent to the seal, and the statute controls; as of August 2026 the Board had not conformed the rule text.

- Expiration date
- The statute gives the seal's contents exhaustively: State of Nebraska, the licensee's name, the license number, and the words Professional (discipline) Engineer. - City on seal

- The seal must be legible, whether an embossing, computer generated, or other type of seal. In the absence of legibility, the seal is invalid.(Rule 6.1.3)
- The responsible professional engineer applies the seal to each sheet of original drawings.(Rule 6.1.4)
- Specifications, reports, studies and other documents are sealed on the title page and/or the first page, as well as the last page.(Rule 6.1.5)

- Documents clearly marked "Draft" prepared for preliminary submission and review do not require the seal, signature and date.(Rule 6.1.7)
- Licensees are responsible for providing adequate security over their seal and signature wherever it appears, whether produced electronically or by other means.(Rule 6.1.8)
Nebraska engineer seal questions
Is there a required diameter for a Nebraska PE seal?▾
There is no minimum diameter. The Board says in terms that it does not require a certain size or diameter, and the words "diameter" and "inches" appear nowhere in Title 110 or the Act. (Board licensee seal page; 110 Neb. Admin. Code ch. 6)
Does a Nebraska PE seal have to name your engineering discipline?▾
A professional engineer's seal that does not specify the discipline is non-compliant. The discipline goes inside the phrase, as in "PROFESSIONAL CIVIL ENGINEER", not beside it, and "P.E." is not an authorized legend. (Neb. Rev. Stat. § 81-3437.01(1); Board licensee seal page)
Can a Nebraska seal say "Registered Professional Engineer"?▾
