Utah Architect seal requirements: size, wording, and the rule that sets them
As of
Architects in Utah seal under Utah Admin. Code R156-3a-601 (Architectural Seal - Requirements), administered by the Architect Licensing Board. The seal reads “Licensed Architect”. Circular, 1-1/2 inches minimum diameter. The rule states no maximum.
R156-22-601 states a minimum diameter and nothing else; the "maximum 2 inches" figure circulated for Utah is in no part of the rule. The agency is now the Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL); the older name Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing survives only in the legacy heading of the R156 code title.

Which Utah rule governs an architect's seal?▾
R156-3a-601, the seal section of the Architect Licensing Act Rule — not R156-22-601, which is the seal rule for professional engineers, professional structural engineers and professional land surveyors. Both rules sit under the same division, so the agency name is no guide to which text applies, and the two do not say the same thing: the engineers' rule fixes where the signature and date have to go and the architects' rule does not. Does a Utah architect's seal say "Licensed Architect"?▾
Those exact words. The seal includes the licensee's name, license number, "State of Utah" and "Licensed Architect". Utah uses neither "Registered Architect" nor a bare "Architect", and it does not extend the "Professional" form that the engineers' and surveyors' rule prescribes for its own licensees — the adjective differs by profession within this one state. Is a Utah architect's seal capped at 2 inches?▾
No. The rule requires a circular seal of 1-1/2 inches minimum diameter and states no maximum, so the "minimum 1½ inches, maximum 2 inches" pairing circulated for Utah is half invented. The floor is real, though: a stamp shrunk below 1-1/2 inches to fit a title block does not comply. (R156-3a-601(1))
Must a Utah architect sign across the face of the seal?▾
The architect rule does not say so. It requires all technical submissions prepared by the licensee or under the licensee's supervision to be signed and dated with the licensee's seal, and prescribes no position for the signature or the date. The across-the-face-of-each-seal-imprint requirement quoted for Utah comes from R156-22-601(1)(c), the engineers' and land surveyors' rule, which does not reach architects. (R156-3a-601; cf.
