Wyoming Architect seal requirements: size, wording, and the rule that sets them
As of
Architects in Wyoming seal under Wyo. Code R. 012.0001.9 §§ 2–3 (Board rules ch. 9, Seal Specifications and Use); Wyo. Stat. § 33-4-116, administered by the Wyoming State Board of Architects and Landscape Architects. The seal reads “LICENSED ARCHITECT-STATE OF WYOMING”. No less than 1½ inches and no more than 2 inches in diameter.
Chapter 5 of the engineering board's rules was last amended 3 September 2021, and its Section 2, headed "Sizes", governs sheet dimensions rather than seal diameter — the seal is dimensioned in Section 1(a). Every version of that chapter in force between 1 July 2013 and 24 March 2020 prescribed no dimensions at all; the 24 March 2020 amendment restored the 1¾-inch and 1¼-inch figures the rules had carried before the 2013 rewrite. The architects board renumbered Chapter 9 on 17 December 2025: the seal design is now Section 2, where earlier guidance cites Section 1, and Section 1 is now a bare authority provision. Seals authorized before 1 July 2013 may still be used, and the architects board still accepts its 2011 and 2001 seal designs for anyone licensed before 17 December 2025 and its 1992 design for anyone licensed before 27 April 2001. Landscape architects are licensed by the architects board and seal under the same Chapter 9, reading "LICENSED LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT-STATE OF WYOMING" in place of the architect legend.

Wyoming architect seal questions
How big is a Wyoming architect seal?▾
No less than 1½ inches and no more than 2 inches in diameter — a genuine range, with both ends fixed by the architects' board at Wyo. Code R. 012.0001.9 § 2(a). The 1¾-inch figure commonly attached to Wyoming belongs to the other board: the engineering and land surveying rule fixes two concentric circles, the outer 1¾ inches and the inner 1¼ inches, and none of it governs an architect. Wyoming splits the professions across two boards with two unrelated seal rules, so an architect who copies the engineer's dimensions has copied a rule that does not apply. (Wyo. Can a Wyoming architect keep using an older seal design?▾
Yes, and the rule says so by date of licensure. Wyo. Code R. 012.0001.9 § 2(a)(i) and (ii) accept the seal designs the Board adopted in its rules dated December 19, 2011 and April 27, 2001 for persons licensed before the effective date of the current rules, and § 2(a)(iii) accepts the design adopted June 18, 1992 for persons licensed before April 27, 2001. Each of those older designs is printed in the rule itself. An architect holding one is not required to re-cut a seal to the current illustration; an architect licensed after the current rules took effect on 17 December 2025 works from the current format. Does a Wyoming architect have to seal a draft submitted to a client?▾
No, provided it is marked. Wyo. Code R. 012.0001.9 § 3(f) provides that documents clearly marked as "Draft" and prepared for preliminary submission and review do not require the professional's seal, signature and date, and it says so expressly for documents prepared for a client or a governmental agency, unless that entity requires them. The marking carries the exemption: a preliminary set that is not clearly marked "Draft" is not within it. (Wyo. Code R. 012.0001.9 § 3(f))
What must a Wyoming architect's sealed document identify?▾
The project, by name and by place. Wyo. Code R. 012.0001.9 § 3(c) requires documents to include both the name of the project and either its address or its location, and to be sealed on the title page or the first page by the licensee responsible for the work. That title-page rule does not stand alone: § 3(b) has the responsible licensee identify work prepared by or under their direct supervision by applying the seal to each sheet of original drawings. Section 3(e) closes the loop on the seal itself: no seal is valid unless it is signed across the face of the seal with the licensee's name and the date on which the material was signed, so an unsigned imprint on a correctly identified document is still not a valid seal.
