Alabama Geologist seal requirements: proper sizing, signing and sealing of documents
As of
Alabama fixes the geologist's seal wording in statute: Ala. Code § 34-41-14(a) requires the licensee's name, serial number and the legend "Licensed Professional Geologist - State of Alabama", on a seal of the design authorized by the Board and obtained from the Board's secretary-treasurer. Rule 364-X-11-.02(2) adds only that the seal is circular and at least 1 5/8 inches in diameter. Every sheet of plans, drawings, documents, specifications and reports must be signed, sealed, and dated.

Chapter 330-X-11 is still published under the Board's former name, Alabama State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Seals obtained before the rule was adopted that conform to prior Board rules remain acceptable. Rule 364-X-11-.02(3) was amended effective August 14, 2023 to permit "a board-issued electronic seal" alongside rubber stamps; the electronic option is tied to a seal issued by the Board rather than one generated by the licensee.

Alabama geologist seal questions
Did you buy your Alabama seal from a vendor?▾
Section 34-41-14(a) directs each licensee to obtain the seal from the board's secretary-treasurer at a cost prescribed by the board, and the stamp/seal request letter carried in Appendix I to the Board's rules states that the board-supplied seal is the only acceptable one and that the Board will not recognize a seal or stamp purchased from outside sources. (Ala. Code § 34-41-14(a); Ala. Admin. Code r. 364-X App. I)
Is the two-inch circle in Chapter 364-X-11 your seal?▾
It is not. Rule 364-X-11-.01 describes the Board's own seal, which is at least two inches in diameter and is imprinted on certificates; the licensee's seal is governed by 364-X-11-.02 and is at least 1 5/8 inches. (Ala. Admin. Code r. 364-X-11-.01, -.02(2))
