Georgia Landscape Architect seal requirements: proper sizing, signing and sealing of documents

As of

Georgia registers landscape architects, and the licensee's seal is governed entirely by Rule 310-7-.01, which requires "a seal of the design authorized by the Board, bearing the registrant's name, certificate number, and the legend 'Registered Landscape Architect.'" No diameter is prescribed anywhere in Chapter 310-7. Drawings, specifications and other documents issued by a registrant must be stamped or sealed and countersigned by the registrant.

The rule specifies both circles: the outer at 1½ inches and the inner at 1 inch. The Board furnishes the seal design at licensure. The Act creates the board as the "Georgia Board of Landscape Architects" (O.C.G.A. § 43-23-2); the Secretary of State's office and the rules compilation both style it the Georgia State Board of Landscape Architects. Note also that the statute's seal sections describe the board's own seal, not the licensee's — the licensee's seal exists only in Rule 310-7-.01.

Georgia Landscape Architect seal

Legend
“Registered Landscape Architect”
Diameter
No diameter is prescribed. Rule 310-7-.01(1) calls for "a seal of the design authorized by the Board" and names only three items of content; Chapter 310-7 contains no other rule, and the two seal sections of the Landscape Architects Act concern the board's own seal rather than the licensee's.
Expiration date
Rule 310-7-.01(1) names the seal's contents — name, certificate number and the legend — and no expiration date appears; Chapter 310-7 adds no further seal rule.(Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. r. 310-7-.01(1))
Signature date
Rule 310-7-.01(2) requires documents to be stamped or sealed and countersigned by the registrant; it imposes no dating requirement, and no other rule in Chapter 310-7 does.(Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. r. 310-7-.01(2))
City on seal
The prescribed contents are the registrant's name, certificate number and the legend; no city or place of business is required.(Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. r. 310-7-.01(1))
  • "Each registered landscape architect shall, upon receipt of a certificate of registration, obtain a seal of the design authorized by the Board, bearing the registrant's name, certificate number, and the legend "Registered Landscape Architect.""(Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. r. 310-7-.01(1))
  • "Drawings, specifications, and other documents issued by a registrant shall be stamped or sealed and countersigned by the registrant."(Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. r. 310-7-.01(2))
  • "A registrant shall not stamp or seal, or allow any other person to stamp or seal any document after the certificate of the registrant named thereon has expired, or has been revoked, or during the period of any suspension imposed by the Board."(Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. r. 310-7-.01(2))
  • "A landscape architect shall not affix, or permit to be affixed, his name or seal to any drawing, specification, or other document which was not prepared by him or under his personal supervision. No registrant shall affix his seal to any drawings, specification, or other document unless he has assumed the responsibility for the accuracy of the work involved."(Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. r. 310-7-.01(3))
  • "A holder of a Temporary Permit shall meet all the requirements of this section."(Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. r. 310-7-.01(4))
  • The Landscape Architects Act contains no provision governing the licensee's own seal. Its two seal sections were read and both concern the board: § 43-23-3 directs the board to adopt a seal bearing "Board of Landscape Architects, State of Georgia" by which it authenticates its acts, and § 43-23-11(b) provides that a licensee's certificate "shall have placed thereon the seal of the board."(O.C.G.A. §§ 43-23-3, 43-23-11(b))

Georgia landscape architect seal questions

Is the legend "Registered Professional Landscape Architect"?

No. The rule prescribes the legend "Registered Landscape Architect" — the word "Professional" does not appear in it. (Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. r. 310-7-.01(1))

Is stamping the document enough?

No. Documents issued by a registrant must be "stamped or sealed and countersigned by the registrant" — the countersignature is a separate obligation. (Ga. Comp. R. & Regs. r. 310-7-.01(2))
