South Carolina Geologist seal requirements: proper sizing, signing and sealing of documents
As of
South Carolina prescribes what the seal must say but not how big it must be. S.C. Code Ann. § 40-77-290 requires a seal "of the design authorized by the board" bearing the registrant's name, assigned serial number and the title "registered professional geologist", and Regulation 131-11(A) states the legend as "Registered Professional Geologist" on either an embosser or a rubber stamp. No diameter or shape appears in either the statute or the regulation.

The statute and the regulation disagree on one legend. For an engineer licensed after July 1, 2001, S.C. Code Ann. § 40-22-270(1) prescribes "Professional Engineer" while R.49-207(A)(1)(b) prescribes "Licensed Professional Engineer". The Board has published no ruling resolving it. Separately, the Chapter 49 heading still reads "Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors"; the board's name under § 40-22-10(A) is "Professional Engineers and Surveyors". The statute and the regulation use slightly different wording for the same seal: § 40-77-290 speaks of the "title" registered professional geologist, Regulation 131-11(A) of the "legend" Registered Professional Geologist. South Carolina registers geologists rather than licensing them, so the seal reads "Registered", not "Licensed".
