Oklahoma Architect seal requirements: size, wording, and the rule that sets them
As of
Architects in Oklahoma seal under OAC 55:10-11-8 (Licensee's seal), administered by the Oklahoma Board of Licensed Architects, Landscape Architects and Licensed Interior Designers. The seal reads “Licensed Architect, State of Oklahoma”. The rule does not prescribe a diameter.
The board writes its own name as the Oklahoma State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers and Surveyors; OAC Title 245 and 59 O.S. § 475.3 still read "Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors". A Professional Structural Engineer may hold an additional seal reading "Professional Structural Engineer" for structural projects, and uses the ordinary "Licensed Professional Engineer" seal for other engineering work.

Does an Oklahoma architect's seal say "Registered Architect"?▾
No. Both the statute and the rule prescribe the same words — "Licensed Architect, State of Oklahoma" — alongside the architect's name and Oklahoma license number. Note what that does to the state name: the architect's seal must say "State of Oklahoma" in full, while the engineer's and land surveyor's seal, written by a different board, inscribes "Oklahoma" alone. The two professions are opposites here, and copying either one across is a non-compliant seal. A landscape architect uses "Licensed Landscape Architect, State of Oklahoma" instead. Is there a required size for an Oklahoma architect's seal?▾
There is none. OAC 55:10-11-8 prescribes the words and nothing dimensional — no diameter, no inner circle, no minimum and no maximum. The two commercially designated sizes quoted for Oklahoma, the 1-7/8" seal and the 1-5/8" seal with their prescribed inner and outer circles, come from the engineers' and surveyors' rule at OAC 245:15-17-1(c), a different title of the Administrative Code administered by a different agency. Architects are licensed by the Oklahoma Board of Licensed Architects, Landscape Architects and Licensed Interior Designers, not by the engineering and surveying board. (OAC 55:10-11-8; cf. Where do the words go on an Oklahoma architect's seal?▾
The rule settles the wording but not the arrangement — it says only that the seal shall contain the architect's name, Oklahoma license number and the words "Licensed Architect, State of Oklahoma". The board's own published example resolves the layout: "STATE OF OKLAHOMA" arcs across the top, "LICENSED ARCHITECT" arcs along the bottom, and the registrant's name sits above the license number in the center. That is the reverse of the engineer's seal, where the professional title reads clockwise at the top and the state name counter-clockwise at the bottom. Do Oklahoma architects have to date sealed technical submissions?▾
Yes, but you will not find it in the seal rule. OAC 55:10-11-8 covers only the requirement to procure a seal, the acceptable types and the design; the dating obligation sits in the statute, which requires all technical submissions prepared by the architect or under the architect's responsible control to be sealed, signed and dated. An architect who works from the Administrative Code alone will seal and sign and never see the third word. (59 O.S. § 46.25; OAC 55:10-11-8)
Can an Oklahoma architect seal work prepared by someone else?▾
In two defined cases, yes. The statute's baseline is that no architect may sign or seal technical submissions unless they were prepared by or under the architect's responsible control, but it then permits sealing portions prepared by or under the responsible control of another person licensed under the State Architectural and Licensed Interior Designers Act, provided the architect has reviewed and adapted them in whole or in part and has either coordinated their preparation or integrated them into the work; and portions not required to be prepared under an architect's responsible control, provided the architect has reviewed, adapted and integrated them. Review alone is not enough — the coordination or integration step is part of the test. (59 O.S. § 46.25)
