Missouri Architect seal requirements: size, wording, and the rule that sets them

Architects in Missouri seal under 20 CSR 2030-3.060 (Licensee's Seal), administered by the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Professional Landscape Architects. The seal reads “Architect”. Exactly one and three-quarters inches (1 3/4 inches) in diameter. The rule prescribes a single diameter, not a range.
Chapter 3 also contains 20 CSR 2030-3.010, which sets the official seal of the Board itself at two and one-quarter inches. That is the Board's own seal, imprinted on documents the Board issues, not the licensee's seal, and the two are easily conflated because they sit in the same chapter.

Can a Missouri architect's seal say "Registered Architect"?▾
Only an architect licensed before January 1, 2002 may display it, and for architects alone the license number keeps the same prefix either way — the roman capital letter A. That is the architect's peculiarity in this rule: an engineer or a land surveyor who uses the pre-2002 legend must also change the prefix, from PE to E and from PLS to LS respectively. Everyone licensed since then takes the bare word "Architect" on the lower part of the seal, and "Licensed Architect" appears nowhere in the rule at all. (20 CSR 2030-3.060(1), (1)(A), (1)(B), (1)(C))
Is a Missouri architect's seal 2 1/4 inches in diameter?▾
No — that is the Board's own official seal, one rule earlier in the same chapter. 20 CSR 2030-3.010 describes it as the Great Seal of the State of Missouri with the Board's name substituted for the words "The Great Seal of the State of Missouri", surrounded by a cord-like circle within a fringed circle, of the dimensions of two and one-quarter inches in diameter. An architect's personal seal is one and three-quarters inches — a single fixed diameter, not a minimum and not one end of a range. (20 CSR 2030-3.010(1); 20 CSR 2030-3.060(1))
Can a Missouri architect shrink a digital seal to fit the title block?▾
No. The rule allows an embossing seal, a rubber stamp or a computer-generated image, but requires that image to be identical in size, design and content with the design section (1) prescribes. Size is one of the three things that must be identical, so a computer-generated seal scaled down to sit in a title block is no longer the seal the rule authorizes — the 1 3/4 inch figure binds the electronic seal exactly as it binds the embosser. If a Missouri architect's seal equals a signature, why sign as well?▾
Because two separate provisions are at work. Section 327.411.2, RSMo makes the personal seal the legal equivalent of the licensee's signature whenever and wherever it is used, which is what fixes responsibility for the contents of everything sealed on the seal's owner. It does not displace 20 CSR 2030-3.060(3), which separately requires the licensee to affix a signature and place the date when the document was originally sealed — the date of sealing, not today's date — at the minimum to the original of each sheet in a set of all final technical submissions.
