  • The seal must follow the Board-authorized design: "STATE OF TEXAS" around the top of the outer band, "LICENSED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER" around the bottom, a star in the center, with your name and license number beneath it. (22 TAC § 137.31(b))
  • Titles must not appear on the seal — the Board names "Dr.", "Col." and "P.E." specifically. You may use "P.E." when signing the work; it does not belong on the seal itself. (22 TAC § 137.31(f))
  • The name on the seal must be a given name, a commonly accepted variation of it, or an initial combination, with the surname exactly as currently listed with the Board and as it appears in your usual written signature. Nicknames are not permitted. (22 TAC § 137.31(d))
  • Either all-uppercase ("LESLIE H. DOE") or standard mixed case ("Leslie H. Doe") is acceptable. A legal name change after licensure requires a new seal. (22 TAC § 137.31(d))
  • Rubber stamps, impression seals and electronic seals are all acceptable under Texas law. Physical seals must be capable of leaving a permanent ink image or impression. (22 TAC § 137.31(c))
  • Preprinting blank forms with a seal, or using a decal or other seal replica, is prohibited. (22 TAC § 137.31(e))
  • Affix the seal, your signature and the date of execution to all documents containing the final version of any engineering work. (22 TAC § 137.33)
