Missouri Geologist seal requirements: proper sizing, signing and sealing of documents
As of
Missouri registers geologists through the Missouri Board of Geologist Registration, and 20 CSR 2145-2.100 prescribes the seal in detail: 1 3/4 inches in diameter, concentric circles, "STATE OF MISSOURI" in capitals across the top and "REGISTERED GEOLOGIST" across the bottom, with the registrant's name and certificate number preceded by "RG" inside the inner circle. An embossing seal, rubber stamp or computer-generated image is allowed provided it is identical in size, design and content. The registrant must sign on or through the seal and place the date of the signature under it on each sheet.

Chapter 3 also contains 20 CSR 2030-3.010, which sets the official seal of the Board itself at two and one-quarter inches. That is the Board's own seal, imprinted on documents the Board issues, not the licensee's seal, and the two are easily conflated because they sit in the same chapter. Missouri uses the title "registered geologist," not "licensed" or "professional" geologist, and the rule's wording tracks that. 20 CSR 2145-2.100 was last amended by a rule filed July 26, 2019, effective January 30, 2020; its authority is § 256.456, RSMo 2016 and § 256.462.3, RSMo Supp. 2019.

Missouri geologist seal questions
Is your certificate number preceded by the letters "RG"?▾
The rule requires the number inside the inner circle to be "preceded by the capital letters 'RG.'" A bare number does not match the prescribed design. (20 CSR 2145-2.100(1))
Is the signature on or through the seal, with the date underneath?▾
Missouri does not accept a signature merely placed near the seal. Section (3) requires the signature "on or through" the seal and the date of the signature placed under the seal. (20 CSR 2145-2.100(3))
Does a computer-generated seal have to match the embossed one?▾
Yes. Section (2) permits a computer-generated image only if it is "identical in size or design and content" with the 1 3/4-inch design in section (1). (20 CSR 2145-2.100(2))
Is your seal on a document that also carries other professionals' seals?▾
The rule directs the registered geologist to certify on the title or index page that his or her seal relates only to the portions involving the practice of geology, and to identify which geologic portions were prepared under his or her immediate personal supervision. (20 CSR 2145-2.100(3)(C))
