Kansas Architect seal requirements: size, wording, and the rule that sets them

Architects in Kansas seal under K.A.R. 66-6-1 (Seals and signatures); K.S.A. 74-7023(d), administered by the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions. The seal reads “ARCHITECT”. Two concentric circles: the outer circle shall be 1⅝ inches in diameter and the inner circle 1 1/16 inches in diameter.
One board licenses all five of the Kansas technical professions — architecture, landscape architecture, professional engineering, professional geology and professional surveying (K.S.A. 74-7003(w)) — so there is no separate architects' board or surveyors' board to consult. Landscape architects and geologists use the same two-circle seal with "LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT" or "PROFESSIONAL GEOLOGIST" in the outer band. Note where the wording comes from: K.A.R. 66-6-1(a) fixes the geometry and the inner-circle wording itself, but describes the outer band only as "the licensee's profession"; the profession words are supplied by the Board's own published guidance rather than by the regulation. K.A.R. 66-6-1 was last amended December 4, 2020, and on August 10, 2026 the Board's proposed-rules page read "There are no currently proposed amended regulations." One presentational discrepancy is worth knowing: the regulation as filed with the Secretary of State prints "LICENSED" and "KANSAS" in capitals, and the Board's PDF handouts print the profession names in capitals too, while the HTML copy of the same material on the Board's seal page renders all of those words in title case. The regulation prescribes the words, not their capitalization.

Does a Kansas architect's seal read "Licensed Architect"?▾
Not as a phrase — the two words live in different rings. K.A.R. 66-6-1(a) puts "the licensee's profession" at the bottom of the band between the two circles, and puts the words "LICENSED" at the top of the inner circle and "KANSAS" at the bottom of it, so the band reads "ARCHITECT" on its own. Note where that word comes from: the regulation never names a profession, and "ARCHITECT" is supplied by the Board's own published documents. Which Kansas board licenses architects and writes their seal rule?▾
The same board that licenses engineers. K.S.A. 74-7003(w) makes architecture one of five "technical professions" — with landscape architecture, professional engineering, professional geology and professional surveying — and under K.S.A. 74-7004 the governor appoints one state board of technical professions, of thirteen members, for all of them. K.A.R. 66-6-1 is the one seal regulation for all five, so there is no separate Kansas architects' board and no architect-specific seal rule to look for; a landscape architect's seal is the same design with "LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT" in the band. Where does a Kansas architect seal a set of specifications?▾
Once, on the front. K.A.R. 66-6-1(d)(1)(B) has project-specific technical specifications sealed, signed and dated on the cover sheet or index page, while (d)(1)(A) has a set of drawings sealed on each drawing sheet unless a digital signature process links every sheet to the licensee's area of responsibility or a certification block designates the sheets each licensee is responsible for.
