  • The registrant inserts the date, electronically or manually, within the seal or within two inches of the seal, each time the registrant signs and seals a document. (12 AAC 36.185(d))
  • The seal is validated either by an original handwritten signature over each seal, or by an electronic image of that signature permanently affixed directly over the seal together with a digital signature that is unique to the registrant, verifiable, under exclusive control, and invalidated if the document changes. (12 AAC 36.185(f))
  • Every document required to be signed and sealed must also show the business name, physical address and telephone number, the project name or identification, the project address or location, and the entity's certificate of authorization number if applicable. (12 AAC 36.185(g))

What size does an Alaska PE seal have to be?

12 AAC 36.180(b) (Seal) governs the Alaska professional engineer (PE)’s seal but does not prescribe a diameter. Sizes quoted for Alaska elsewhere generally come from stamp suppliers’ catalogues rather than from the rule. What the rule does require is that your name and license number stay clearly legible.

Is there a required diameter for an Alaska seal?

There is no prescribed diameter. Any 1½-to-2-inch range quoted for Alaska is not in the rule; what the rule requires is a design substantially similar to the illustration. (12 AAC 36.180)

What license number goes on an Alaska engineer's seal?

The number printed on the seal is not the license number as issued. Strip the alpha characters, and put the board's two-character branch identifier in front of what remains. (12 AAC 36.180(b))
