FAQ

Alaska Architect Seal FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Alaska digital architect stamps and seals.

How do I obtain a digital Alaska architect seal or stamp?

Once you are licensed in Alaska, you can generate your seal here and download it immediately. Fill in the form and position your signature if you want one. The layout follows 12 AAC 36.180(a) (Seal), which is the provision the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers, and Land Surveyors will measure the seal against.

What are the requirements for the Alaska architect stamp or seal?

Alaska’s architect stamp rule is 12 AAC 36.180(a) (Seal), administered by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers, and Land Surveyors. The seal must carry “Registered Professional Architect”, and the rule prescribes an illustrated design, not a diameter. No size is given in AS 08.48 or 12 AAC 36.

A further 3 requirements, each tied to the subsection that imposes it, are itemised in the Alaska requirements section on this page.

What size does an Alaska architect stamp have to be?

12 AAC 36.180(a) (Seal) governs the Alaska architect’s seal but does not prescribe a diameter. Sizes quoted for Alaska elsewhere generally come from stamp suppliers’ catalogues rather than from the rule. What the rule does require is that your name and license number stay clearly legible.

Does an Alaska architect's seal say "Registered Architect"?

No — the word "Professional" belongs in the middle of it. The design the rule illustrates arcs REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL ARCHITECT across the bottom, under STATE OF ALASKA across the top, and the registrant's seal must be that design or a substantially similar electronic or digital representation of it. (12 AAC 36.180(a))

Does the Alaska architect's seal design include a signature line?

It does. The illustrated design carries a ruled line labeled "(Affix Signature)" across the middle of the seal, with "(Your Name)" and "No." beneath it and a five-point star and the "49 TH" device above it. Those elements are part of the design the rule prescribes, and the registrant's handwritten signature then goes over the seal itself. (12 AAC 36.180(a); 12 AAC 36.185(f))

What license number goes on an Alaska architect's seal?

Only the numeric characters of it — the rule requires alpha characters to be excluded, so a license issued as A-1234 is sealed as No. 1234. Nothing is added in front of the digits either: the two-character branch identifier that must precede the number is a rule for the professional engineer's seal, and the architect design shows only "No." and a blank rule. (12 AAC 36.180(a); 12 AAC 36.180(b))
