The statute forbids it outright: a professional land surveyor shall not use the legend "Professional Engineer". The surveyor's legend is "Professional Land Surveyor", and where an engineer's stamp must state the particular discipline for which the engineer is qualified — with a separate stamp required for each discipline, civil and structural excepted — the surveyor's legend admits no discipline at all. Nor does the rule offer a combined design: a stamp must conform to one of the designs printed in NAC 625.610(2). (NRS 625.383(1), (3); NAC 625.610(2), (3)(d))
Yes. NRS 625.350(2)(f) requires a record of survey to show the signature and the validated stamp of the surveyor who performed the survey, and "validated" is a term of art: under NAC 625.610(4) a stamp is validated by adding a legible signature across or adjacent to the face of the image, the date of stamping or sealing, and — if the stamp itself does not carry it — the license expiration date, with the name, discipline and license number left legible. A stamp on its own is not a validated stamp. The map must also carry a separate certificate prepared by the surveyor, and the exemption for as-built and record plans in NAC 625.610(12)(a) is written for engineering plans, not for a record of survey. No, and retirement is a separate prohibition from expiry. NRS 625.565 makes it unlawful for any person to impress a document with the stamp of a professional land surveyor after that surveyor's license has expired or been suspended or revoked, and then makes it separately unlawful after the professional land surveyor has retired from the practice of land surveying — an event that need not coincide with the license lapsing. Violation is a gross misdemeanor, and the prohibition reaches anyone using the stamp, not only its owner. (NRS 625.565(4), (5), (7))
Not for work already issued. Surveying maps and records submitted to obtain permits, released for construction, or issued as formal or final documents must bear the licensee's signature, stamp, the date of signing and the expiration date of the license — but if the license expires after the document has been submitted, released or issued, the licensee is not required to sign, stamp or seal it again to show an updated expiration date. That relief ends the moment changes are made to the document after issue. (NAC 625.610(8), (9))
