The Mississippi rules in full, with citations

Rule 6.2(1) sets a two-inch diameter for the seal of the Board itself, which is imprinted on the certificates the Board issues. It is not the licensee's seal, and the two are often conflated.

  • The prescribed illustration carries the licensee's name across the top of the outer ring and "STATE OF MISSISSIPPI" across the bottom, with "LICENSED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER" and the license number in the inner circle. The PE illustration shows the number bare, while the surveyor illustration prefixes it "PS-". (Rule 6.2(2)(b))
  • The statute requires a seal of the design authorized by the board, bearing the licensee's name and the legend "licensed professional engineer". (Miss. Code Ann. § 73-13-29)
  • Each sheet of plans, drawings, documents, specifications and reports must be signed, sealed and dated by the licensee in Responsible Charge. Where sheets are bound in one volume, the licensee may sign, seal and date only the title or index sheet if it clearly identifies all the other sheets. (Rule 6.2(3)(a)(1) and 6.2(3)(b))
  • Electronic or digital signatures must have an electronic authentication process attached to or logically associated with the document that is unique to the individual, capable of verification, under the individual's sole control, and linked so that the signature is invalidated if any data in the document is changed. (Rule 6.2(3)(d))
  • Any hard copy printed from the transmitted electronic file must bear the facsimile of the signature and seal, and any alteration to the file voids the facsimile of the signature. (Rule 6.2(3)(d))
  • Revisions affecting public health and safety, or state and local codes, may be made only if they are subsequently signed, sealed and dated by the licensee who made them or under whose Responsible Charge they were made. (Rule 6.2(3)(e))
  • Seals obtained before this rule was adopted, in conformance with prior Board rules, are acceptable. (Rule 6.2(2)(c))

Is the minimum diameter of a Mississippi PE seal 1½ inches?

Is the two-inch seal in Mississippi Rule 6.2(1) the licensee's seal?

Does the signature have to go across a Mississippi PE seal?

Can a Mississippi PE seal say "Professional Engineer" or "P.E."?

I am also a registered land surveyor — is there a combined stamp?
Yes. The Mississippi Engineer and Surveyor stamp carries both credentials on one seal, so a licensee who is also a registered land surveyor does not need two separate stamps.
