What size does a Delaware architect stamp have to be?

24 Del. Admin. Code 300 § 7.6 (Design and Use of Architect's Seal); 24 Del. C. § 313 governs the Delaware architect’s seal but does not prescribe a diameter. Sizes quoted for Delaware elsewhere generally come from stamp suppliers’ catalogues rather than from the rule. What the rule does require is that your name and license number stay clearly legible.

Does DAPE set the seal rules for Delaware architects?

No. The Delaware Association of Professional Engineers licenses engineers and nobody else. Architects are registered by the Board of Architects in the Division of Professional Regulation, and their seal comes from 24 Del. C. § 313 and 24 Del. Admin. Code 300 § 7.6 — a different body, a different instrument, and a far more prescriptive one than the engineer's three-element statute. (24 Del. C. § 313; 24 Del. Admin. Code 300 § 7.6)

What size is a Delaware architect's seal?

The rule states no dimension at all. 24 Del. Admin. Code 300 § 7.6.1 requires the seal to contain the architect's name, registration number and the phrase REGISTERED ARCHITECT--STATE OF DELAWARE, and then provides that it "shall comply in all respects, including size and format, with the specimen shown below" — a printed image with the architect's name arcing across the top, the registration number beneath it, the Delaware state coat of arms in the center, a star at each side, and "STATE OF DELAWARE" over "REGISTERED ARCHITECT" arcing along the bottom. Conformity is measured against that picture, and § 7.6.1.1.5 requires an electronic seal to have the same graphic appearance in all respects. (24 Del. Admin. Code 300 § 7.6.1, § 7.6.1.1.5)

Must a Delaware architect print a disclaimer beside the seal?

Yes, and it travels with the seal rather than appearing once. 24 Del. Admin. Code 300 § 7.6.4 requires all technical submissions prepared by an architect to contain this legend wherever the architect's seal appears: "The professional services of the architect are undertaken for and are performed in the interest of [name of person employing architect]. No contractual obligation is assumed by the architect for the benefit of any other person involved in the project." A sheet carrying the seal without the legend is short of the rule. (24 Del. Admin. Code 300 § 7.6.4)

When does a Delaware architect add a construction administration note?

Whenever the architect has not been employed to furnish construction contract administration services at the time the technical submissions are issued. 24 Del. Admin. Code 300 § 7.6.5, under 24 Del. C. § 303(c)(2), requires a note saying so in minimum 12 point type, in close proximity to the seal. The type size is part of the requirement, and § 7.6.6 forbids any person from removing or altering the seal, signature, date or these legends afterwards. (24 Del. Admin. Code 300 § 7.6.5, § 7.6.6; 24 Del. C. § 303(c)(2))
